Overview

Why the Midland M.Ed.?

The Midland University Master of Education is designed for full-time teachers who are ready to grow into new roles within their school or district.  Throughout the program, we strive to help students become content experts in their classrooms through our coursework that helps students build skills that can be taken back to school immediately.

Our program offers a unique opportunity to earn a master's degree while also pursuing an area of emphasis. Students complete 18 credits of core coursework plus an additional 18 credits related to the specific area of emphasis pursued and a capstone experience.  Students can choose to take the area of emphasis year first, or the core year, whichever the student prefers. Credits for the area of emphasis vary slightly, but all MEd students will complete 36 credits.

Flexible Class Structure

Designed around a teacher’s demanding schedule, the MEd can be completed fully online (NBCT only offers the hybrid schedule) with asynchronous course work througout. Modules run on a schedule Monday through Sunday, with the bulk of assignments due on Sunday to allow for a teacher's demanding schedule.

There are no prerequisite courses for the MEd, allowing students to jump into courses at many points throughout the year.  Students may pause their coursework and start back up as the challenges of being an adult learner are a reality of life. Note: The capstone course must be taken in the final term.

Experienced Faculty

Learn from Midland’s faculty who are experts in their field and have multiple years of combined K-12 teaching and leadership experience in education.  Throughout the online courses, faculty challenge student thinking, and allow students to share authentic experiences to enrich learning and strengthen the quality and meaning of the online discussions and assignments. They provide the necessary resources and commitment to help students understand both the theory and the application of course content.

Capstone Experience

The school-based capstone experience helps students to synthesize coursework, classroom experiences, and research findings throughout their program of study and will be presented to interested and supporting stakeholders.
